A Gentle Rain of Starlight has over 100 pages of dazzling color photographs of Mauna Kea.  Most of the photos were taken by the author, astronomer Michael West, with others provided by the Mauna Kea observatories, NASA, the Hawaii State Archives, and other photographers.  A Gentle Rain of Starlight won Honorable Mention at the Hawaii Book Publishers Association 2006 Ka Palapala Po'okela book awards in the "Illustration and Photography" category.
