About the Author of "A Gentle Rain of Starlight: The Story of Astronomy on Mauna Kea"

Michael West received his PhD in astronomy from Yale University in 1987, and over the past two decades he has held teaching and research positions in North America, South America, Europe and Africa, including seven years as a professor of astronomy at the University of Hawaii. His research interests include the origin and evolution of galaxies, galaxy clusters, and the large-scale structure of the universe. He is a frequent user of the telescopes on Mauna Kea, as well as the Hubble Space Telescope and other telescopes around the world.
